Despite Ballarat recently announcing free parking in its central business district, our Bendigo council has stated it has no plans to make parking in the central business district, free. Recently, a citizen who works in the Bendigo CBD contacted me. She informed me that it
costs her $141 per month for parking (with a discount applied). Based on an average of 4.3 weeks per month and 5 working days per week, the total cost is $6.55 per day. MY ACTION PLAN WILL BE TO CAMPAIGN FOR REDUCED PARKING FEES FOR OUR CBD WORKERS. Citizens who want free parking can easily park a couple of extra blocks away and walk further, which is conducive to physical health.
Hargreaves Mall has been a subject of popular debate in recent years. MY ACTION PLAN WILL BE TO CAMPAIGN FOR REGULAR POLICE PRESENCE TO ENSURE HARGREAVES MALL IS FREE OF CRIME AND LOITERING AND A SAFE PLACE FOR BUSINESSES AND FAMILIES. In July 2020, a proposal for a six-storey hotel development in Hargreaves Mall was approved by the City of Greater Bendigo. One gentleman recently suggested a road should go through the middle of Hargreaves Mall. Another gentleman suggested that, whatever the plan, it should include how to get good tenants into the empty shops. If elected, I will be seeking to address this issue as something must be finally done.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had a detrimental effect on the health and wellbeing of citizens in our City of Greater Bendigo Community. This truly is a time like no other, and the effect it is having on individuals, couples and families is astronomical. I am person-centred, not political-centred. Mental Health is not something that is typically on the agenda of a councillor. I believe this needs to change. Unique circumstances require unique individuals to rise up to the challenge. MY ACTION PLAN WILL BE TO CAMPAIGN FOR ASSISTANCE AND RESOURCES FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLBEING ORGANISATIONS TO ENSURE OUR CITIZENS ARE CONSISTENTLY SUPPORTED.
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had a detrimental effect on the small businesses in our City of Greater Bendigo Community. Some of us are going through the hardest period of our lives. MY ACTION PLAN WILL BE TO CAMPAIGN FOR ECONOMIC STIMULATION BY CONSULTING WITH CORPORATIONS, DONORS AND PHILANTHROPISTS AND WORKING TOGETHER TO HELP OUR SMALL BUSINESS SECTOR RECOVER. We need to buy local, support local family businesses and encourage innovation and ideas. I am adaptable, and as our environment changes, we need councillors who are adaptable. I want to help our city pull through this pandemic and come out the other end; better and stronger than we were before”
